MIAMI – The only thing coursing through the white-hot crowd was an artificial bass. The Nuggets stormed into South Beach and stomped the life out of the crowd on Wednesday night. With surgical passing and physical, hard-nosed play, the Nuggets seized control of the NBA Finals with a dominant 109-94 win in Game 3. Behind dueling triple-doubles from Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, Denver’s two franchise pillars, the Nuggets wrested homecourt advantage back from Miami after ceding it in Game 2.Up 2-1 in the series, they can get greedy come Friday’s Game 4. Even though Duncan Robinson connected on a couple late 3-pointers, most Heat fans who’d left with more than three minutes remaining weren’t there to see them. After the Heat believed they’d found something defensively for Jokic, the two-time MVP systematically destroyed their defense for a 32-point, 21-rebound, 10-assist triple-double. It was ruthless and relentless, and the type of performance that can help carve a legacy. Jokic annihil...

Initial observations from Game 3 of the 2023 NBA Finals between the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat at Kaseya Center.1.Christian Braun? More like Christian LeBraun. Who’s got the mojo to break the Heat’s fourth-quarter magic? A rookie from Kansas, of course. Christian Braun introduced himself to the NBA at large in the Nuggets’ Game 3 victory in the NBA Finals on Wednesday night — and did so with swagger on the game’s biggest stage. The Kansas 3-and-D swingman drained seven of his first eight shots at the Kaseya Center, going right at Miami superstar Jimmy Butler, accounting for 15 points and three boards in his initial 18 minutes. He proved to be that vital, and unexpected, third scoring piece on the road for the Nuggets in support of monster games from Nikola Jokic (32 points, 21 rebounds, 10 assists) and Jamal Murray (34 points, 10 assists). And it was a piece that proved critical, too, as …2. MPJ vanishing act in Denver came with him to Miami. As the Nuggets worked to extend their...

DENVER — Gleaming at his new-look, full-strength lineup before Wednesday’s game, Gabe Kapler said the most exciting part wasn’t the addition of Joc Pederson, nor Thairo Estrada, nor Michael Conforto, though all three surely serve an important presence in the middle of the order. The Giants manager began listing off the names he had available on his bench.“I think we always think about how deep the lineup gets when we have a fully healthy position player roster,” Kapler said. “But it really is emphasized when you look at the bench. You have J.D. Davis, Austin Slater, Wilmer Flores on the bench today. The Rockies have two left-handed pitchers, (Brent) Suter and (Brad) Hand, that can come out of their ‘pen. It kind of makes you think twice. You’re going to run into some really good right-handed bats.”In succession, that is precisely who the Rockies ran into in the seventh inning Wednesday night. When Colorado turned to Suter, Kapler counte...

Denver Nuggets too big, too strong for Miami Heat in Game 3 of NBA Finals

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:33:51 GMT

MIAMI (AP) — After building their largest lead of the night to that point midway through the third quarter of Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the Denver Nuggets put on a rebounding clinic.Aaron Gordon grabbed one on the defensive end after Miami’s Max Strus missed, then Michael Porter Jr. came down with the ball off Jamal Murray’s failed 3-point attempt. Porter got his own own rebound off a block — and when he missed, Gordon put it back up and in, and the score wasn’t close the rest of the way.It was their own personal game of shoot until you make it — and it spoke to the Nuggets being too big, too strong and too tough inside for the Heat in their 109-94 victory Wednesday night that put them up 2-1 in the series and one step closer to the first championship in franchise history.Denver outrebounded Miami 65-41, and points in the paint were a lopsided 60-34. Nikola Jokic had 18 rebounds on the defensive end alone as part of his game-controlling triple-double.“When we rebou...

He just wanted to apologize. Obviously he didn’t mean to. For people speculating for this or that, I just wanted to clear that. Chuckie’s a good guy and the situation didn’t call for it either. Heat, following similar script as Game 1, lose to Nuggets in Game 3 with poor shooting

MIAMI (AP) — Those open looks Miami kept knocking down three nights earlier in Denver just wouldn’t go down back home. Gabe Vincent and Max Strus misfired all night and too many other shooters were cold in a 109-94 loss Wednesday night that gave the Nuggets a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals. Miami made 11 of 34 shots from deep in Game 3. And despite getting the looks inside that they wanted, the Heat simply did not knock them down, resulting in a loss in which their fans, once roaring as loud as they could as they swirled white flags above their heads, were finding the exits before the final minutes.Vincent shot 2 for 10 and Strus was 1 for 7, the starting guards combining to miss eight of their 10 attempts behind the arc.Miami made just 9 of 26 first-half attempts in the paint and matched Denver’s toughness early. Bam Adebayo had 13 points and 10 rebounds at the break, and the Heat only trailed by five entering the third. The Heat trailed by as many as 19 in the third, shoot...
